Overview
A short trek through the Mahabharat Himalayan range, which is east of Kathmandu. The trek can be completed in a week, but you can add more days to explore the area. The trek passes through rhododendron forests, ancient settlements, and the Terai region, and offers views of the Himalayas. You can also combine the trek with a river rafting trip or a trip to Tibet.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery Itinerary ( 6 days)
- Morning:
- Fly from Kathmandu (Nepal) to Paro (Bhutan). The flight typically takes about 1 hour.
- Arrive in Paro and complete immigration procedures.
- Afternoon:
- Transfer to your hotel in Paro.
- Rest and relax after your flight. You may want to visit Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), an impressive fortress and monastery that sits on the banks of the Paro Chhu River.
- Evening:
- Take a gentle stroll through Paro Town.
- Enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant.
Early Morning:
- After breakfast, start your hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery. The hike takes about 4-5 hours round trip.
- Start early (around 7:30 AM) to avoid the midday heat and enjoy the cool morning breeze.
Morning to Afternoon:
- Trek through pine forests adorned with prayer flags. You’ll stop at the Taktsang Cafeteria halfway up for a break and a scenic view of the monastery.
- Continue the hike to the monastery. Arrive at Tiger’s Nest Monastery by 11:00 AM.
- Explore the monastery and its sacred caves, meditation chambers, and stunning surroundings.
Afternoon:
- Begin the descent around 1:30 PM and return to Paro by late afternoon.
- Relax at your hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Evening:
- Have dinner and reflect on your incredible day at the monastery.
Morning:
Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples, dating back to the 7th century.
Explore the National Museum of Bhutan (Paro Dzong), which showcases Bhutanese culture, art, and history.
Afternoon:
Drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress offering great views of Mount Jomolhari, Bhutan's second-highest peak.
Evening:
Free time to relax or shop for souvenirs in Paro Town.
Optional: Enjoy a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath for relaxation.
Day 4: Paro to Thimphu
Morning:
- After breakfast, drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, located about 1.5 hours from Paro.
- En route, enjoy scenic views of the Paro Valley and the majestic mountains.
Afternoon:
- Upon arrival in Thimphu, visit Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the Bhutanese government and the residence of the king’s office.
- Visit the Buddha Dordenma, a giant golden statue of Buddha overlooking the valley.
Evening:
- Stroll around the Thimphu town, which has a charming blend of traditional Bhutanese architecture and modern development.
- Dinner at a local restaurant with Bhutanese specialties.
Morning:
- Visit the Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in memory of the third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
- Explore the Folk Heritage Museum and the National Textile Museum to learn more about Bhutan’s culture and traditional textiles.
Afternoon:
- Option to visit Changangkha Lhakhang, a peaceful temple overlooking Thimphu.
- After lunch, drive back to Paro (1.5 hours).
Evening:
- Enjoy a relaxing evening in Paro. Visit Paro market for last-minute shopping, including local crafts, clothing, and souvenirs.
- Dinner at your hotel.
- Morning:
- After breakfast, head to Paro Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu.
- You can explore a bit more of Paro or enjoy a peaceful morning in Bhutan before your flight.
- Afternoon/Evening:
- Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal, marking the end of your wonderful Bhutan adventure.

For international tourists: The entrance fee to Tiger’s Nest is covered under the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), which is part of the daily tourism package (USD 200 per person per day).For Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals, the entrance is free, but they still need to pay the SDF (INR 1200 per day).
The best times to visit are during spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). The weather is mild and clear during these seasons, making it perfect for hiking.
